About Moreland, GA

Moreland is a town in the Coweta County of Georgia. In 1888, the construction of a train station led to the formation of the present town which was renamed Moreland on September 1, 1888 and incorporated on December 28. The town was then laid with the train station in the center and the boundaries extending half a mile in every direction to form a circular shape. Cotton and fruit crops were the important contributors to the local economy till the 1920s when bad weather and diseases spoilt the crops. Moreland Knitting Mills was the town’s major industrial employer till 1968. These buildings are now part of the Hometown Heritage Museum and public meeting places; memorabilia have been moved to the historic Moreland Mill on Main St. in 2011.
