If you’re dissatisfied with or embarrassed by your smile due to stained or uneven teeth, ceramic veneers may be a great option for you! Veneers can improve the shape, color, size, length, and position of your teeth—completely transforming your smile!
At Schultz Family Dental, our custom cosmetic veneers combine artistry and precision to create beautiful, natural-looking smiles. Dr. Schultz works closely with top ceramists in the industry to design ceramic veneers that perfectly complement your facial features and meet your unique smile goals.
What are Ceramic Veneers?
Ceramic veneers are thin shells that are placed over the front surfaces of your teeth to correct a variety of dental issues. They can be made of feldspathic porcelain, lithium disilicate, zirconia, or a combination of these materials. Dental veneers can address conditions such as chipped, stained, or crooked teeth, as well as uneven spacing between the teeth. These cosmetic veneers are custom-designed to look completely natural, blending seamlessly with your existing teeth.
At Schultz Family Dental, we work with some of the best ceramists in Georgia and across the country to create ceramic veneers that are both beautiful and life-like. To achieve this result, Dr. Schultz takes the time to discuss your smile goals prior to beginning treatment. A thorough exam, digital photographs, and an evaluation of facial symmetry allow us to make the best choices for the shape and color of your teeth, and we can even show you what your cosmetic veneers will look like before treatment begins through our smile test-drive process!
Am I a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?
As with any other dental procedure, it’s important that patients consult with Dr. Schultz before receiving ceramic veneers , to ensure that these restorations are their best option for cosmetic treatment. For example, dental veneers may not be the best option for patients who grind or clench their teeth, as they may break under pressure. Also, patients must have healthy teeth and gums in order to have cosmetic veneers placed—any disease or decay must be treated prior to ceramic veneer treatment.
You may be an ideal candidate for ceramic veneers if you:
- Have healthy teeth and gums with sufficient enamel
- Want to correct multiple cosmetic issues simultaneously
- Are looking for a long-lasting smile transformation
- Don’t grind or clench your teeth (or are willing to wear a nightguard)
- Have realistic expectations about the results
- Are committed to maintaining good oral hygiene
- Have fully developed adult teeth (not recommended for children or young teens)
Conditions that porcelain veneers can address:
- Severely stained or discolored teeth that don’t respond to whitening
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Misshapen, undersized, or irregularly shaped teeth
- Minor misalignment or crookedness
- Worn-down teeth from grinding or aging
Dr. Schultz will conduct a comprehensive evaluation during your consultation to determine if cosmetic veneers are the right solution for your unique needs and goals.
The Ceramic Veneer Procedure at Schultz Family Dental
Placing ceramic veneers is typically completed over a series of 2-3 appointments spanning several weeks. Here’s what you can expect during your cosmetic veneer journey:
Step 1: Comprehensive Smile Analysis & Design Consultation
First, Dr. Schultz will take high-quality digital photographs of your teeth and complete a comprehensive smile analysis to discuss your individual smile goals. Preliminary impressions and digital scans of your teeth will be taken so that our expert ceramist can use wax to start designing your custom ceramic veneers. This wax-up preview will be shown to you (and can even be tried in) during your next visit, allowing you to see and approve the exact size, shape, and design of your cosmetic veneers before any permanent changes are made to your teeth. This collaborative approach ensures you’ll love your final results!
Step 2: Tooth Preparation & Temporary Veneers
Once you’ve approved the design, your teeth will be minimally prepared (if at all) by removing a thin layer of enamel (typically 0.5-0.7mm) to accommodate your dental veneers. This conservative preparation preserves most of your natural tooth structure. The wax-up will be transferred to your mouth to make any final adjustments to your veneer design. A final, precise impression of your teeth will be taken and sent to our master ceramist. Dr. Schultz will create beautiful temporary veneers for you to wear while your custom porcelain veneers are being handcrafted in the lab—typically 2-3 weeks.
Step 3: Veneer Placement & Final Adjustments
When your custom cosmetic veneers are ready, you’ll return for your try-in appointment. Dr. Schultz will carefully fit each porcelain veneer to your teeth, assessing them for proper fit, color match, and aesthetic appearance. Once you and Dr. Schultz are completely satisfied, your veneers for teeth will be permanently bonded using advanced dental cement and curing techniques.
Step 4: Follow-Up Care
A follow-up visit will be scheduled approximately one week later to assess the health of your gum tissue, check your bite, and ensure that there are no complications. Final photos will be taken so you can see and celebrate your amazing smile transformation with your new ceramic veneers!
Caring for Your Porcelain Veneers
After receiving ceramic veneers, there are some steps that patients should take to prolong the life of their new restorations. While ceramic veneers are durable, they can chip or break under excessive pressure. Avoid chewing on hard objects like ice, nuts, hard candy, or pens. Remember—teeth aren’t tools, so use scissors to open packages! Also, it’s important to keep your teeth clean by following a daily oral health routine. Cavities can still form under and around dental veneers, so a hygiene schedule and appointments for cleanings are a must, to maintain your new smile!
To ensure your cosmetic veneers last 10-15 years or longer:
| Do: | Don’t: |
| Brush twice daily with non-abrasive toothpaste Floss daily to prevent gum disease Visit Schultz Family Dental for regular checkups and professional cleanings every 6 months Wear a nightguard if you grind or clench your teeth Use a mouthguard during contact sports | Bite your fingernails or chew on pens/pencils Use your teeth to open packages or bottles Chew on ice, hard candy, or other extremely hard foods Consume excessive amounts of highly acidic foods or beverages Skip dental appointments—regular monitoring is essential |
With proper care, your ceramic veneers will maintain their beauty and function for many years, giving you a confident smile you’ll love showing off!

FAQs
With proper care, ceramic veneers typically last 10-15 years or longer. The lifespan of your cosmetic veneers depends on factors like oral hygiene habits, whether you grind your teeth, and how well you follow care instructions. Many patients enjoy their dental veneers for 20+ years with excellent maintenance.
No, dental bonding is typically painless. Because the procedure requires minimal to no tooth preparation, most patients don’t need anesthesia. Enamel contouring is also comfortable, as Dr. Schultz only removes a small amount of enamel from the outer surface of your tooth.
Yes! High-quality ceramic veneers are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. At Schultz Family Dental, Dr. Schultz works with expert ceramists to create cosmetic veneers that match the translucency, color, and texture of natural enamel. The wax-up preview process and smile test-drive ensures you’ll love how your veneers for teeth look before they’re permanently placed.
The ceramic veneer procedure is not painful. Local anesthesia is used during tooth preparation to ensure your comfort. You may experience minor sensitivity after the procedure, but this typically resolves within a few days. Temporary veneers protect your teeth while your custom dental veneers are being created.
Yes, ceramic veneers can correct the appearance of minor to moderate misalignment and crookedness. However, cosmetic veneers are a cosmetic solution, not an orthodontic one. For severe misalignment, orthodontic treatment may be recommended before or instead of veneers.
Ceramic veneers require minimal to no tooth preparation—typically only 0.5-0.7mm of enamel is removed. This conservative approach preserves most of your natural tooth structure while creating space for the dental veneers to look natural and not bulky.
No, ceramic veneers are highly resistant to staining. Unlike natural teeth, the ceramic material used for cosmetic veneers doesn’t absorb pigments from coffee, tea, wine, or tobacco. This stain resistance is one of the major benefits of ceramic veneers over dental bonding.
Yes, most patients choose to get ceramic veneers on their front teeth—typically the upper front 6-10 teeth that show when you smile. The number of veneers for teeth needed depends on your smile goals and how many teeth are visible when you talk and smile. Dr. Schultz will recommend the ideal number during your consultation.
No, ceramic veneers cannot be whitened because they’re made of ceramic, not natural enamel. However, this is actually a benefit—dental veneers maintain their bright, white color permanently without yellowing over time. If you’re interested in teeth whitening, we recommend doing so before getting veneers so we can match your cosmetic veneers to your newly whitened teeth.
